Guided public tour to the river valley

Korsør, 24th of July 2013

Despite the very hot day, 42 people grown-ups and kids did showed up to trip called “geography and nature”. We did have a lot of advertisement  in the newspaper and a tourist brochure about nature activities in the summer in Slagelse Municipality.
A professional geographer was hired to tell how the river valley was made, how the underground is, how the stone age people used these places and the Vikings off course. There was also an introduction about the LIFEscape project and the landscaping project and a small photo exhibition of before and after photos.  We made a quiz where the grownups had to listen carefully to answer the questions. The kids got a plastic bag and should look and find leaves from trees and bushes and learn a little about them, they should also look for cow races and I told them why cows are so important to maintain the landscape. The geographer took the kids out in the marsh to dig for mussels and other exciting things. At the lunch place the kids could in some plasticbags feel the difference between marsh soil and clay soil. They were also asked them to draw or write what they enjoyed the most to do in the nature. The answers were climbing, making fire, making caves/huts, be in the garden with dad and something about horses. After lunch people could continue to Trelleborg the Viking fortress by foot or return back to the cars.

LIFEscape goes to school

Berit Oline Pedersen and Charlotte Jørgensen of the Slagelse Commune visited the local high school to raise awareness on the landscape topic. Talking with teenagers proved to be a very enriching and rewarding experience, which resulted in some fresh ideas for landscape management. For example:
  • These teenagers didn´t find "nature apps" for mobile phones very interesting
  • They liked parcours and do-it-yourself activities such as shelter building
  • Girls liked ”two person” tracks (to walk and talk)
  • Outdoor concerts in nature were another popular idea
The lesson about the Landscape Convention and LIFEscape ended up in a newspaper article.

2nd LIFEscape project meeting

Korsør, 30 May - 1 June 2012
Over 80 landscape planners, practitioners and experts participated in the open conference organised by the Slagelse Municipality on the 31st of May on the topic of stakeholder participation. The conference goal was to show how others have been working with stakeholders and to learn about tools and ideas on how to manage your stakeholder involvement in landscape planning projects.

Structured around a dynamic agenda, we enjoyed speeches and discussions with prominent Danish guest speakers (Annika Agger of University of Roskilde and Morten DD Hansen, TV nature guide) as well as representative of Slagelse Youth Council telling us about the refreshing "youth perspective“.

LIFEscape partners (Lund, Elbląg and Żemaitija) also had a chance to proudly present their first experiences with the focus groups.

Study trip to Denmark

Slagelse, 29-30 November 2011
Around 20 employees and key local stakeholders from the Swedish Lund and Sjöbo communes as well as the Skåne county administration board took part in a study visit organised by the Slagelse commune. On the agenda was an excursion to the pilot area, and a meeting and reception with the Slagelse officials. The hosts organised a very interesting program with visits of several sites in the pilot area, including the Trelleborg fortress and riverside. Partners could present their work and strengthen their cooperation during a meeting in the local conference hall.
